You can use the Webroot agent to obtain the MD5 for a file, which is needed when creating a file override for Webroot Business Endpoint Protection. The MD5 is available in the scan log on an endpoint where the file exists.

The MD5 (Message-Digest algorithm 5) value of a file is a cryptographic hash function that produces a 128-bit value, which acts like a fingerprint to uniquely identify a file.

Option 1: Right-click scan
  1. Right-click the file and select Scan with Webroot.

  2. When the Scan Results window appears, click Save Scan Log in the bottom left.

  3. Name the file and save it to the desired location. This log contains the MD5 value of the file scanned.

Option 2: Using a scan log

Tip: For this option to work, the device needs to have a policy applied that allows the GUI to be opened and it also helps to have the Webroot icon visible in the sys tray. These settings are available in the Basic Configuration settings for endpoint policies. Keep in mind the system policy Recommended Defaults does not allow the GUI to be opened. Click here for help managing policies.
  1. Run a scan on a device where the file exists.

  2. Open the Webroot agent GUI on the device, by doing one of the following:

    • Double-click the Webroot icon in the system tray, it is a green circled W.
    • Right-click the Webroot icon in the sys tray and click Open...
    • If the system tray icon is hidden, open the Windows Start menu, click All Programs (or Programs), Webroot SecureAnywhere, then Webroot SecureAnywhere again.
  3. Click the gear icon next to Utilities, then select the Reports tab.

  4. Click Save scan log. Provide a file name, then click Save.

  5. Open the scan log, search for the file, the MD5 value will be to the right of the file name.
