Verifying domains and loading targets (or users) are important tasks that need to be completed before phishing or training campaigns can be created.

Loading targets involves entering information for the users that will be included as part of campaigns. Targets can be entered one at a time, in batches, or uploaded via CSV. Name (first/last), email address and tags are the data stored in relation to each target, with email address being the most important. Targets are also referred to as users.

Verifying domains involves defining the domain(s) that will be used as part of campaigns, click here for assistance.

Note: Public domains, such as gmail.com and yahoo.com, are not supported.

How to load targets:

There are 2 methods for loading targets for Security Awareness Training:
Each of these processes starts from the Import Targets page. Use the instructions below to open that page, additional sections cover how to use either method to upload targets.

+Getting to the Import Targets page
  1. Log in to the Webroot Management console.

  2. In the left nav bar, select Sites List and find and click the Site you want to investigate. You can also use the box at the top of the page to search for a Site by name.

  3. On the right side of the screen under the Subscriptions column, hover your mouse over S and click the rectangular icon with the arrow pointing to the upper right. This opens the Security Awareness Training console.

  4. In the left nav menu of the Security Awareness Training console, click Targets to open the Target Data page, then click +Import Targets to open the Import Targets page.

+Loading targets manually
  1. By default, the Import Targets page opens with the import method set to Enter Targets Manually. This is the setting for manual entry and does not need to be adjusted.

  2. Using the top section of the Import Targets page, enter information for the target:
    • First Name
    • Last Name
    • Email address (only email addresses using verified domains are allowed)
    • Employee ID (optional)
    • Tags (optional)

  3. Once those fields are completed, click +Add Target. This will add the manually entered information to the box below and reset the target fields.

For the example shown, the values used are:
    • First Name - John
    • Last Name - Smith
    • Email address – jsmith@webroot-email.com
    • Employee ID - 99012
    • Tags - Manager
  1. Repeat steps 1 and 2 for all the targets that need to be added.
Note: You can add information to the bottom section directly, but be careful and follow the provided format or the import will fail.
  1. After all the target data is displayed in the bottom window, click Import to start the target upload process. The system will flash a quick message to let you know the process has begun.

  2. Once the import is complete, the system will post a message to the SAT console showing success or failure. System messages are displayed by clicking the envelope in the top right part of the SAT console, unread messages will make the envelope appear to jiggle.

You need to refresh the Targets page for newly loaded targets to display.

+Importing targets using a CSV or LDIF file
  1. By default, the Import Targets page opens with the import method set to Enter Targets Manually. The setting needs to be changed to Upload Targets.

  2. The most important part of uploading targets via CSV or LDIF file is to ensure the data in the import file is in the proper format.:
    • CSV file format – download the CSV template from the Import Targets page by clicking one of the CSV Template links. Use the example in the template to properly enter target data.
    • LDIF format - (LDAP/Active Directory export):
      • Must have the .ldif file extension
      • Field information:
Field
Description
givenname User’s first name (required)
sn User’s last name (required)
mail User’s email address (required)
objectGUID Internal unique user ID (optional)
ou Organizational Unit, will be treated as tags (optional)
  1. To upload the import file, click Browse, select the import file, then click Open. A green Upload button appears on the Import Targets page and the import file name and size will be displayed. Click Upload to import the selected file.

  2. The system will flash a message indicating success or failure and will post a system message to the SAT console. System messages are displayed by clicking the envelope in the top right part of the SAT console, unread messages will make the envelope appear to jiggle.
Additional information regarding import files:
  • There is a 15,000 record limit per file. If you have more than 15,000 targets to upload, split the file into multiple files for import.
  • First name, last name and email address are required fields for targets, additional fields will be treated as tags.
  • Please allow a few minutes for larger files to process.
